With the addition of 4 new sites each year all of Kartal will be integrated into the system.
During the informational sessions, slide presentations were given and brochures were handed out to the residents of 26,729 residential buildings.

As part of the project, informational sessions were held around Kartal.

The project will continue in order to leave behind a cleaner Kartal for the future generations. The public is being educated about giving up the vicious cycle of: ‘Produce, use, throw out’ and instead to embody the principle: ‘Produce, use, recycle and reuse’.

The goal of the educational and informational seminars is to increase awareness on environmental issues and participation in environmental protection among the people of Kartal.

Children and women were educated about recycling and its importance in reducing and reusing waste material. Following the meeting, containers for waste vegetable oil and battery bins were handed out. Inside residential areas and gardens, bins for liquid and solid waste were placed. Recycling bins were also placed inside institutional gardens. Municipality of Kartal’s Environmental Protection and Control Directorate explained the project to all the residents in the pilot areas. Blue bags were given to residents for plastic, metal and paper/cardboard waste and collected by the municipality on specified times of the week and the day. Waste was also collected in blue, green and white bins.

There were presentations about the importance of recycling glass, plastic, metal, paper/cardboard and composite packacing waste and conservation of natural resources.
In 8 schools, a total of 9622 students and teachers were educated about environmental protection.
Since 2009:

  • 172 tons of waste was recovered from the sea,
  • 595,729 kg of waste rubber,
  • 746 kg of waste battery,
  • 41,154 lt of waste vegetable oil,
  • In 8 months of working with Albayrak, 678.555 kg of waste paper/cardboard was recovered, in 4 months of working with Hursan 753,160 kg of paper/cardboard with a total of 1,431,715 kg of waste paper/cardboard was collected.

Municipality of Kartal’s Environmental Protection and Control Directorate explained the project to all the residents. Since the start of the project in September 2009 a total of 168,260 tons of waste has been collected.

Waste recovery and reuse contributes to the conservation of energy and natural resources. Efficient use of solid waste centers also has economic value. For the people of Kartal who would like to participate in the project they can receive more information from the Municipality of Kartal’s Environmental Protection and Control Directorate or from the Environmental help line.
